Union Jack

It's a big love. I think it started with a note book my mother had given me as a child to use in my english classes. I liked it so much that I didn't want to ruin in by writing exercises in it. I just stared at it and dreamt that I was in London.

The sight of its design and bright colors has always drawn my attention and though it was kind of behind my mind, my love woke up some years ago after seeing a gorgeous Swarovski bracelet with the design of The Flag! I window-licked for many days until I decided to buy it it, but it was too late. The object of my affection was long gone and in limited edition, so now it only lives in my memory. Unfortunately I haven't found a single image in the internet to share with you.

Then there was the SMEG Refrigerator. A dream object for when I would make my own home, but I decided that with the same money I could buy all of my kitchen devices.

Sorry for being an awful blogger, but it has been quite a full month.

First, there was The Marriage on 17/02, where I can proudly say that I was "the best woman" and though small and discrete, it was followed by a 2-day hangover (This a skill you know). Have a beautiful life together, dear friends!

Then there was the Mardi Gras weekend, with this dazzling sunset and drinking beers by the see on Saturday 25/02.



And then there was work at work and more work at home, preparing the second book of Mr Black Publications. It is now out hot from the printer.

In the meantime I did some DIY at home. The first is a tutorial I saw in Pinterest:

My results where a little... let's say not symmetrical, but still made a nice container for my ball-lights, by the fireplace.




and the second is a frame inspired by Urban Outfitters

and it was the most fun to make. I think there will be many following.

So if you are interested in making a frame like this the things you will need are:
• An old newspaper
• Scraps of yarn
• Scissors
• Glue or glue-gun (I prefer the glue-gun, because the glue dries faster)
• A ruler
• A pencil or pen
• A frame to use as a base (I used the cheapest one from IKEA).



So, first you have to cut strips from the newspaper measuring 5cm wide and fold them in half lengthwise.
Then twist the folded strips to create a paper twine. You might need to wet your finger tips every now and then to make the twisting easier as they tend to get dry. Try not to overdo it. We don't want the newspaper to soak on water.
After you make your strips (number depends on the size of your frame), cut your yarn in twice the length of each strip and tie it on one end of the strip. Start twisting and tying to create the effect of the pictures (no special tips for this).
After preparing all your paper and yarn strips, glue them carefully on your frame and press them until the glue is dry, otherwise it tends to lose the shape you give them and you won't have good results. This is why I prefer the glue gun.

So, not more to say. Your frame is ready (and cost far less the the original one - sorry urban outfitters!)
Find a nice picture to go with it. I think I will print a black and white one.

Fooling around in Pinterest yesterday (looking for inspiration once more) I came across this really cool and inspirational quote. So, I decided to turn the computer off and make something.

I started by making 2 small booklets by sewing some remaining sketching paper in my sewing machine (since I don't have any projects pending I just sew paper!). While looking for an interesting paper to use as hard cover, I found a really long lost and totally forgotten issue of Elle Deco from Italy. Dating 2005, it was a really cool issue, about the 15 years of Elle Deco in Italy. Flipping through its pages I understood why I had kept this magazine on the first place. The photos where amazing and the styling of the various spaces still up to date.

All these images I saw made me want to reproduce some of the beauty in my new journals. More like taking notes with my colored markers of what I saw and keeping my hands and my mind busy. I kind of liked the process.

Καθώς χαζολογούσα στο Pinterest χτες (ψάχνοντας κλασικά τη χαμένη μου έμπνευση), έπεσα πάνω σε αυτό το πολύ ενδιαφέρον απόφθευγμα. Αποφάσισα λοιπόν να αφήσω τις υπεκφυγές, να κλείσω τον υπολογιστή και να φτιάξω κάτι.

Ξεκίνησα φτιάχνοντας 2 σημειωματάρια, ράβοντας κομμάτια χαρτιών στη ραπτομηχανή μου (αφού δεν έχω κανένα ρούχο στα σκαριά, θα ράψω χαρτιά). Αναζητώντας ένα ενδιαφέρον χαρτί για εξώφυλλο, βρήκα ένα πολύ παλιό και ξεχασμένο τεύχος Elle Deco ιταλικό από το 2005! Ήταν ένα εξαιρετικό τεύχος, εορταστικό για τα 15 χρόνια του. Φυσικά ξέχασα τι έψαχνα και άρχισα να το ξεφυλλίζω, πράγμα που μου εξήγησε γιατί το είχα κρατήσει αρχικά. Οι φωτογραφίες ήταν καταπληκτικές και οι απόψεις πάνω στη διακόσμηση είναι ακόμα επίκαιρες (μα τόσο πρωτοπόροι οι Ιταλοί;).

Όλα αυτά που είδα με έκαναν να θέλω να αναπαράγω αυτή την ομορφιά στα νέα μου σημειωματάρια. Κάτι σαν "εικαστικές" σημειώσεις όσων μου έκαναν εντύπωση με τους χρωματιστούς μου μαρκαδόρους. Κάτι για να κρατήσω τα χεριά και το μυαλό μου απασχολημένα. Μου άρεσε πολύ αυτή η διαδικασία.

Λοιπόν, τι κάνατε ΕΣΕΙΣ αυτό Σαββατοκύριακο;

Playing with my new gun & last minute gifts

No, no, don't worry! I am just talking about my new glue-gun! I am so exited that I finally got one, that I am making up excuses to use it all the time. For those of you who love crafts, if you don't have a glue-gun, go and get one. It is so fast and effective that I don't know what I was doing before that.

First, a roll of duck-tape ended so I decided to transform it into a bracelet. Don't tell me that you have never tried a duck-tape roll as a bracelet! So I gathered all my precious fabric scraps and did it!




After that I made a sequin frame which I forgot to take a photo of and gave it as a present.

Then I needed more of my glue fix so I made another frame with fabric flowers. (Also a last minute gift).



But I wasn't only making last minute gifts. I had the pleasure to receive one too. The "Liebster Blog Award" from my friend Tina.



I will not keep it to myself. I will pass it on to 5 bloggers I like for different reasons.

Παίζοντας με το καινούργιο μου πιστόλι και δώρα της τελευταίας στιγμής.


Όχι, όχι, δεν μεταμορφώθηκα ξαφνικά σε ένα πολεμόχαρο τέρας. Μιλάω απλά για το καινούργιο μου πιστόλι σιλικόνης. Ήθελα πολλά χρόνια να πάρω ένα, αλλά δεν ξέρω τι με σταματούσε, γιατί ούτε ακριβό είναι, ούτε και δύσκολο να το βρεις. Δεν ξέρω τι έκανα τόσο καιρό χωρίς αυτό. Ξέρω όμως τι έκανα μέσα σε λίγες ώρες ΜΕ αυτό.

1) Βραχιολάκι for me από τελειωμένη κολλητική ταινία (μη μου πεις ότι ποτέ δεν το έχεις δοκιμάσει σαν βραχιόλι) και μπλε σκούρο ύφασμα με παγιέτες. Θυμάσαι;
2) Κορνίζα με την ίδια παγιέτα, που δυστυχώς ξέχασα να φωτογραφίσω και την έδωσα δώρο.
3) Κορνίζα με μαύρα και ροζ υφασμάτινα λουλούδια.

Δεν ήμουν όμως εγώ που έδωσα δώρα της τελευταίας στιγμής. Είχα τη χαρά να λάβω ένα από την φίλη μου την Τίνα. Το "Liebster Blog Award"!!
Επειδή όμως είναι ένα ΄δωρο που δεν το κρατάμε πολύ στα χέρια μας, είναι η σειρά μου να το δώσω σε 5 bloggers για διαφορετικούς λόγους στον καθένα.

Spit Happens

Τον Ιούλιο που μας πέρασε, είχα κανονίσει να πάω επίσκεψη σε μια φίλη μου, προκειμένου να μου δείξει το νέο της σπίτι, αλλά και να τα πούμε, γιατί επρόκειτο να γεννήσει μέσα στις επόμενες εβδομάδες. Επειδή όμως κανείς δεν μπορεί να πει σε ένα παιδί πότε θα γεννηθεί, η μπέμπα αποφάσισε να χτυπήσει τα καμπανάκια της με το φτάσαμε στην εξώπορτα. Έτσι είδα τη φίλη μου για 3 λεπτά, της άφησα και τη γλάστρα που της πήρα και δώσαμε ραντεβού για αργότερα.

Μετά από 2 μήνες περίπου, ήρθε η ώρα να κάνω την επίσημη επίσκεψή μου στην φίλη, αλλά και στη μπέμπα. Ψάχνοντας λοιπόν τι δώρο θα μπορούσα να της κάνω (κάτι που πιθανότατα θα έφτιαχνα εγώ, αλλά όχι και κάτι που θα μου έτρωγε πολύ χρόνο, μιας και έχω αναλάβει πολλές υποχρεώσεις τελευταία), έπεσα πάνω στο σλογκανάκι του τίτλου, το οποίο πολύ του γούστου μου είναι και αποφάσισα ότι αυτό θα αποτελέσει τη βάση για το δώρο μου.

Αφού λοιπόν ταλαντεύτηκα για το αν θα είναι ποδίτσα, κεντηματάκι ή μαξιλαράκι, αποφάσισα ότι το δικό μας το παιδί είναι παιδί-statement, οπότε σχεδίασα στον υπολογιστή ένα λογότυπο, το τύπωσα σε χαρτί ειδικό για σιδερότυπα και ακολουθώντας τις οδηγίες έφτιαξα σε πολύ λίγο χρόνο αυτό το μοναδικό μπλουζάκι.

Καλοφόρετο, μπεμπίτσα και Don't Worry, αν έχεις γουλίτσες. Spit Happens!

Το κακό στην κάλτσα

Σεπτέμβρης. Ένας μήνας αποφάσεων και ξεκαθαρισμάτων. Ιδιαίτερα της ντουλάπας. Τέτοια εποχή οι περισσότεροι έχουμε ανοίξει τις ντουλάπες, έχουμε ξεκαθαρίσει τα ρούχα μας και έχουμε κάνει χώρο για να αδειάσουμε τις βαλίτσες μας. Όχι όμως και η fashionitsa, η οποία όταν ανοίγει τη ντουλάπα της για να ξεκαθαρίσει τα ρούχα της, ώστε να κάνει χώρο για να αδειάσει τις βαλίτσες, ανακαλύπτει κάτι που μεν έχει να το δει καιρό, που πλέον δεν της χρειάζεται, αλλά αδυνατεί να το πετάξει. Κάτι σαν το ντίλι-ντίλι το καντήλι, χωρίς όμως τις θριλερικές αναφορές.

Πρόσφατα λοιπόν είπα να ξεκαθαρίσω τις κάλτσες μου. Να ξεκινήσω από κάπου, βρε αδερφέ! Μου φάνηκε ανώδυνο. Τελικά κατέληξα να κάνω μια κατασκευή που πολύ χαρά μου έδωσε και που θα με ζεσταίνει τις κρύες νύχτες του χειμώνα.

Ξεκινάμε λοιπόν με τις παλιές μας κάλτσες. Εννοείται πλυμένες. Πολύ ωραίο αποτέλεσμα δίνουν αυτές που πωλούνται ως σετάκια σε διάφορα καταστήματα και που τα χρώματα ή τα ντεσέν τους ταιριάζουν.



Αποφασίζουμε με ποια σειρά θα εμφανίζονται



Ύστερα κόβουμε τα δάχτυλα και τις φτέρνες (φυλάμε ένα μπροστινό καλτσούλας για το τέλος) ώστε να μας προκύψουν 2 "σωληνάκια" και καρφιτσώνουμε καλή με καλή. Ράβουμε στη ραπτομηχανή με το αγαπημένο ζιγκ-ζαγκ, το οποίο βοηθά στο να είναι πιο ελαστική η ραφή μας και να μην σπάει. Αν έχετε υπομονή, ράβετε και στο χέρι.



Αφού ράψουμε τα 3 πρώτα μας κομμάτια, τα φοράμε για πλάκα και ανακαλύπτουμε ότι θα μπορούσαμε να σταματήσουμε εδώ, γιατί ήδη έχουμε γαντάκια χωρίς δαχτυλάκια για το χειμώνα. Για δες!



Επειδή όμως έχουμε αρκετά, αποφασίζουμε να φέρουμε την αποστολή σε πέρας. Συνεχίζουμε μέχρι να τελειώσουν τα "σωληνάκια" που φτιάξαμε από τα καλτσάκια μας. Κλείνουμε το πίσω μέρος της ουράς ράβοντας με το χέρι και γεμίζουμε με γέμιση για μαξιλάρια ή βαμβάκι ή ό,τι άλλο μας φωτίσει. Αφού
ο σωλήνας μας γεμίσει καλά, κλείνουμε με το μπροστινό μέρος που έχουμε φυλάξει. και προαιρετικά ράβουμε κουμπιά για ματάκια και μια γλωσσίτσα (Σςςςςςς....σςςςς).

Και voila!! Έχουμε ένα τρομακτικό φίδι!! (Αν και πιο τρομακτικό δείχνει το κουβερτάκι μου).
